Why We Gather: Our Story
What is your food philosophy? What is your life philosophy?
These two simple (or not so simple) questions sparked the idea now come to life as Gather.
My love for food began when I was a baby, back in 1977, in my great-grandmother’s kitchen. There, I ate her homemade chicken broth before I was old enough to consume solid food. The unbelievably delicious scent of olive oil, sautéed garlic, basil, braised meats, and homemade chicken stock was always present at Nonna’s house, and it beckoned countless visitors to her kitchen. Nonna was not a chef, but she was an amazing cook. Nonna’s kitchen served the best meal that anyone could ever have.
Now, my grandfather was a chef. He gained his professional chops while serving in the U.S. Navy and had an extensive career working in all types of restaurants, from diners to fine dining establishments. His salad dressings were legendary and will live on at Gather.
These food memories infuse Gather and provide us with inspiration to bring deliciously wholesome food to Carson City.
