After losing my husband when our daughter was 3 months old, one day around Christmas time, as I scrolled though social media I was struck by all the beautiful family portraits of perfect, nuclear, heterosexual families— the American Dream– a mom, a dad, 2 kids and a dog. I’d been contemplating sending out Christmas cards, but then decided not to, thinking “we’re not a REAL family; we can’t take family portraits.” We’d gone from that happy, perfect family, to an “incomplete” one– just my daughter and I– overnight.

A few months later, I saw a Groupon for an acclaimed local photographer, and suddenly decided, “SCREW IT! We ARE a real family!” I booked a session with him– for just my daughter and I– and from there, the dream was born!

My mission as a photographer is to empower EVERYONE to recognize that there IS no perfect “should” of what your life looks like, or who’s in it… we ALL deserve beautiful photos that we’re proud to hang on our walls and share with the world.
